Gunwharf Quay

Commercial Scaffolding Project

About the project

Where: No. 1 Building, Gunwharf Quay, Portsmouth

Main Scope of Works: This was an interesting project to work on with the complexity of both the design and location made this a challenge!

The Penthouse Apartment had water ingress and taking into account the design of the sloped roof around the terrace we had to create a structure that would give access to the roof incorporating a buttress around the terraces which stepped down. There was nowhere to tie into due to the glass and cladding so an independent scaffold at 100m high it was.

The building is arranged over 29 storeys (it is the tallest skyscraper on the South Coast!) so logistically was a little demanding in regards to transporting the material up. The main lift in the building was only 1m wide and went up to the 26th floor only so we had to walk the last 6 flights of stairs with the material.

For a small scaffold, a great deal of time and resource went into the design, planning and scheduling for this project.  We were only able to work on the project on good weather days, which with all the planning and weather checking right up to the last few hours took us 3 weeks to install.
